Diablo 4 Item Upgrades
Item upgrades allow players to increase the item level of items that can be equipped, such as weapons or armor, as well trinkets above a certain threshold. They can be purchased at any upgrader NPC with the appropriate currency.

Based on the type of item, upgrading an item may cost Dilithium or gold. Some upgrades also require Flightstones or crests. The amount of Flightstones and Crests required to upgrade an item is determined by the level of the item. Blizzard also sets a maximum level for upgrades. The upgrade to the highest level can be expensive especially when you're upgrading PvE gear.
Item upgrades can also change a weapon's ammunition type or size of the damage die, alter its operative or unwieldy special weapon property, or alter the requirements for hand use. Certain upgrades can alter the appearance of a weapon.
